Frequently Asked Questions

You have questions, and that's a good sign. It means you're taking this seriously. Below you'll find honest, straightforward answers to the things most people wonder before reaching out. And if something isn't covered here, I encourage you to contact me directly. I’m happy to help.

About Lynn & Her Practice

  • Lynn specializes in trauma therapy, therapy for moms, and Christian and faith-based counseling. She works with women at every stage of motherhood, from trying to conceive all the way through parenting adult children. She also works with clients navigating eating disorders, and on a selective basis, she sees teens and children. For those who want focused, accelerated healing, Lynn offers trauma intensives as well as adjunct therapy for clients who are already working with a primary therapist and want to add specialized trauma processing to their care.

  • Lynn works primarily with people of faith, including Christian mothers, who are ready to do real, deep healing work without leaving their beliefs at the door. Her clients are often women who feel stuck in old patterns, carry unresolved wounds into their parenting and relationships, or have been searching for a therapist who understands both clinical trauma work and genuine spiritual sensitivity. She also welcomes those who aren't strongly religious but are curious about faith-sensitive care and want a warm, thoughtful space to heal.

  • Yes, and it's woven into the fabric of how Lynn works, not added on as an afterthought. Faith-sensitive care at Root of Life Counseling means your beliefs, your relationship with God, and your spiritual questions are welcomed and respected in session. Lynn doesn't impose a theological agenda, and she won't offer hollow spiritual answers in place of real clinical support. Instead, she creates space for your faith to be part of your healing, however that looks for you. Nothing forced. Nothing judged.

How Lynn Works

  • Lynn draws from a blend of evidence-based, trauma-informed approaches tailored to each client's needs:

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing): for processing trauma that talk therapy alone hasn't resolved

Lifespan Integration: a gentle, body-based method for healing early attachment wounds and shifting deep-seated patterns

Nervous System Awareness: helping your body feel safe enough to heal, not just your mind

Relational Focus: recognizing that healing happens within the context of a safe, trusting relationship

Faith-Sensitive Care: integrating your spiritual life naturally and respectfully into the therapeutic process

Telehealth:  secure, convenient online sessions for adults across Washington and Iowa

  • Adjunct therapy is when you seek out specialized support for a specific aspect of your healing while continuing to meet regularly with a primary therapist. If you're already working with a therapist you trust but feel stuck, or you want to accelerate a particular area of your trauma work, adjunct sessions with Lynn, especially EMDR or Lifespan Integration intensives, can be a powerful addition to your existing care. Lynn is happy to coordinate with your primary therapist so that the work builds seamlessly and you get the most from both relationships.

  • The honest answer is that you often can't know for certain until you have a conversation, and that's exactly what the free consultation is for. A good fit generally means you feel safe enough to be honest, you sense that your story is being truly heard, and the therapist's approach resonates with how you understand yourself and what you need. Lynn works best with clients who are ready to do the deeper work, not just manage symptoms, and who want a space where their faith is part of the conversation, not separate from it. If you're unsure, schedule a free 15-minute consultation and let that be your first data point.

Intensive Sessions

  • Weekly therapy is valuable, but it has limits. Each session requires time to check in, address anything that came up since last week, and re-establish safety before the deeper work can begin. An intensive removes those interruptions and allows you to go further, faster. EMDR and Lifespan Integration intensives can bring relief in days rather than months, and may actually reduce your overall time in treatment. For clients who are highly motivated, have limited scheduling flexibility, or simply do better with immersive work than weekly appointments, intensives can be a genuinely life-changing investment.

  • Intensives at Root of Live Counseling are available in 2, 3, or 5-hour formats. Yes, this kind of work is deep and can be tiring. But it is also accelerated in a way that weekly sessions simply cannot replicate. Sessions weave together talk therapy, focused trauma processing (EMDR or Lifespan Integration), movement breaks, and space for integration, all without the pressure of stopping every 50 minutes. The result is a dedicated, uninterrupted investment in your story and your healing.

  • If you are insured through Premera (Lynn's in-network provider), Premera will typically cover the first hour of an intensive session. The remaining time would be your responsibility. For all other insurance plans, Lynn is out of network. She will provide you with a superbill to submit for potential reimbursement. It's worth calling your insurance company ahead of time to ask whether they reimburse multiple hours of therapy in a single day or week, as policies vary.

Telehealth & Online Therapy

  • Yes, and the research supports this. Studies consistently show that telehealth therapy produces outcomes comparable to in-person care for a wide range of concerns, including trauma, anxiety, and depression. For many clients, online therapy is actually more accessible and sustainable. There's no commute, no waiting room, and no need to arrange childcare just to attend a session. Lynn conducts all of her sessions via secure telehealth, serving adults across Washington and Iowa, and her clients find that a safe, trusting therapeutic relationship translates fully to the online space.

  • The first session is not about having everything figured out or knowing exactly what to say. It's simply a beginning, and Lynn will guide the way. Together you'll:

Clarify what has felt hardest, putting language to the weight you've been carrying

Be heard without judgment. Your story is safe here

Begin to explore the patterns that have kept you stuck, even when you've tried hard to change them

Set a pace that feels safe. Healing is not a race, and Lynn will always follow your lead.

If you're interested in an intensive format for accelerated healing, that's something you can discuss in your first session as well.

  • That nervousness makes complete sense, and it's one of the most human things about this process. Reaching out for help, especially for wounds you've carried quietly for years, takes real courage. You don't have to feel ready or have the right words. You don't even have to be sure therapy is the right choice yet. The consultation is low-pressure and free; it's simply a conversation to see if this feels like the right space for you. Lynn's door is open whenever you're ready, and there is no judgment here for wherever you're starting from.

Insurance & Payment

Still have questions?

  • Lynn is in-network with Premera. For all other insurance plans, she is considered out of network; however, many insurance plans reimburse 50–100% of session fees for out-of-network mental health services.

Before reaching out to schedule, you're welcome to call your insurance company and ask: "What do you reimburse for CPT codes 90875 or 90837 for outpatient mental health counseling?" Here are some helpful questions to have ready:

    1. Do I have out-of-network mental health coverage?

    2. What percentage of fees does my plan reimburse for out-of-network providers?

    3. Do I have a separate out-of-network deductible, and has it been met?

    4. Which service codes does my plan cover without pre-authorization? (Most plans cover 90837 for 50-minute sessions; some only cover 90834 for 45 minutes, which Lynn does not typically use.)

Clients pay the full session fee at the time of service, and Lynn is happy to provide a superbill (a detailed receipt) for you to submit to your insurance company for out-of-network reimbursement.

  • Life with kids is unpredictable; Lynn gets it. That said, your appointment time is reserved specifically for you, and late cancellations affect her ability to serve other clients. To receive a full refund, cancellations must be made at least 48 hours before your scheduled session. Lynn will try to reschedule your appointment within that same week, when possible. If you need to cancel or reschedule, please reach out as early as possible so Lynn can do her best to accommodate you.
